Hyundai is set to launch a new car in the compact SUV category, known as the Hyundai Exter. However, the original form of the Hyundai Exter has been revealed to the public before its official launch.
Hyundai’s prototype car for the Exter has been spotted parked in Seoul, South Korea, without any camouflage or hiding. Despite the urban SUV making its debut in India this summer, it is still unclear whether Hyundai will export the car to other developing countries.
Let’s take a closer look at what the Exter prototype has to offer.
The Hyundai Exter prototype shares some similarities with the Hyundai Mufasa, but it is larger and features square plastic cladding around the wheel arches. At the rear, the Exter has small overhangs and Audi Q2-style taillights, along with black panels that connect the rear glass to the side windows for a floating roof effect.

The Exter will share the K1 platform with other Hyundai models, including the Grand i10 Nios/Aura (India), i10 (Europe), and Casper (South Korea). The car will be supported by a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter petrol engine that produces 82 hp (61 kW/83 PS), as well as a more powerful 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 99 hp (74 kW/100 PS). Power will be channeled to the front wheels, with a choice of manual or automatic transmission.
According to reports, the Hyundai Exter will enter the production line in the second half of 2023, followed by a market launch in India. It is unclear whether Hyundai plans to export the car to other countries at this time.
If the Exter is sold in Indonesia, it will compete with Toyota Raize, Daihatsu Rocky, Honda WR-V, as well as other compact SUVs assembled by India, such as the Nissan Magnite and the Kia Sonet. In India, the Exter will compete with Citroen New C3 and Tata Punch.
