General Motors recently showcased a remarkable military vehicle known as the GMC Hummer EV concept at the renowned Modern Day Marine trade show in Washington DC, United States (US). This groundbreaking car, named the Electric Military Concept Vehicle (eMCV), is built upon the foundation of the Infantry Troop Vehicle, which is based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2.
According to an article on Motor Authority, published on Saturday (1/7/2023), the electric Hummer is an extraordinary adaptation that encompasses military-specific features and equipment on top of a civilian vehicle’s chassis and powertrain. The eMCV, similar to the Hummer EV, boasts a 24-module dual-stack battery pack with an impressive capacity of approximately 200 kWh, delivering an estimated range of 300 miles (482.8 km).
Remarkably, the battery pack can be swiftly charged at a rate of up to 350 kW, allowing for a range extension of 100 miles (160.9 km) in just around 12 minutes. General Motors has also integrated a 12 kW diesel generator into the eMCV, offering limited charging capability and propulsion.
Furthermore, the three-motor powertrain remains virtually unchanged. Similar to the Hummer EV, one motor propels the front wheels via a conventional mechanical locker, while two motors drive the rear wheels, utilizing a “virtual” locker system that enhances traction.

The power output is estimated at an astonishing 1,000 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque, matching the most powerful version of the civilian Hummer EV pickup. To enhance its off-road capabilities, the EMCV is equipped with 37-inch tires, Fox shocks, and heavy-duty brakes.
Notably, the eMCV features a 46-inch weapon ring, swing arm holder, and six-person seating capacity. Reports of an electric military Hummer first emerged in 2021, and in 2022, General Motors announced its intention to supply the US Army with a Hummer EV for evaluation.
The US Army is actively exploring alternatives to fossil fuels and has previously tested an electric pickup truck from the startup Canoo, as well as evaluated a fuel cell prototype based on the Chevy Colorado. The Hummer-based eMCV concept presents another potential option, although it currently remains in the conceptual phase.
