Mercedes-Benz is set to reveal its highly anticipated electric G-Class at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show. Renowned for its off-road prowess and timeless design, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, also known as Geländewagen or G-Wagen, has been an emblem of luxury and performance since its inception in 1979.
The transition to electric power marks a significant milestone for the G-Class. With its classic boxy silhouette, the G-Class has long been synonymous with luxury and robust performance, fueled by its powerful combustion engines.
The EQG Unveiling: Redefining Off-Road Luxury
The electric variant, dubbed the EQG, will debut as the G580 with EQ Technology. Scheduled for unveiling on April 24 at the China auto show, the EQG represents a bold leap into the future of sustainable mobility.
Accompanying the EQG at the event will be plug-in hybrid versions of the AMG GT coupe and EQS sedan, showcasing Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to electrification across its lineup.

The G580 was first showcased in concept form at the 2021 Munich Motor Show, featuring a quad-motor powertrain for unparalleled off-road capabilities.
While initial technical details were unveiled during the prototype launch in 2022, Mercedes-Benz is yet to confirm the official specifications. However, it’s anticipated that the electric G-Class will boast impressive energy efficiency, with a consumption rate between 27.7-30.3kWh per 100 km and a range of approximately 320-350 km on a full charge.
